mehrWe analysed the current state of the circular economy in the MENA region. Country-specific sectors such as construction, textiles, agriculture, and tourism were evaluated. This was complemented by an assessment of the activities of international donor organisations (GIZ, AfD, SECO, World Bank, etc.).
The study included a gap analysis of national legal frameworks, especially in perspective of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan, which defines the legal requirements for EU countries and ended with comprehensive recommendations for GIZ.
Kompetus supported the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia (LANUV) in the development of a comprehensive sustainability management. As part of the pilot project “Sustainable Management of the Future”, Kompetus was commissioned by the State Office to carry out a formative evaluation.
Within the project, processes, the measures, and their effectiveness as well as the results were evaluated. Furthermore, Kompetus developed recommendations for a future sustainability management.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), together with the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTV), has launched the sector dialogue for sustainable tourism.
Leading German and European tourism companies, as well as actors from the civil society and academia participate in this cooperation network. Kompetus supported GIZ with the conception and moderation of the network.
The aim was to promote the exchange of municipal expertise, capacity development, as well as the development of sustainable projects. Mayors and experts from four continents worked out innovative solutions in the fields of mobility, energy, infrastructure, and waste management.
The Kompetus team supported the project for five years with moderation and methodological support (design thinking and agile project management). The programme is a cooperation project between the German Association of Cities, GIZ and Engagement Global gGmbH and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
With its “Land.Home.Future” programme, the Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH promotes innovative and sustainable approaches to the integration and participation of new immigrants.
Kompetus supports the district administrations of Ravensburg and Stendal and in the past Oldenburg, Karlsruhe, Enzkreis, Ludwigslust-Parchim, Coburg and Bernkastel-Wittlich to develop strategies for recruiting, qualifying, and integrating immigrants as well as the integration in the region.
The projects also aimed at strengthening regional multi-stakeholder cooperation among businesses, administrations, and civil society.

As part of the planned pilot project “Sustainable Management of the Future”, Kompetus was commissioned by the State Office to carry out an external evaluation process. Within the scope of the contract, processes are analyzed, the effectiveness of the activities and instruments assessed and the project results evaluated.
Furthermore, Kompetus develops recommendations for the optimization of the project, which are to be included in the design of the sustainability management.

Through a strategic evaluation and workshops, as well as team and individual coaching sessions, the existing strategic areas of action were further developed. In addition, new targets were identified, integrated into the overall strategy and operationalized.
